Connect Garmin Connect to Pelaris

Last updated

Connecting Garmin Connect lets your runs, rides, swims and gym sessions flow into Pelaris after each watch sync, so your coach sees the training you do and programs around it. If you like, your planned sessions can go the other way too, straight onto your watch. You can see how Garmin sits alongside our other connections on the integrations page and on Pelaris for Garmin.

Connect

  1. Click Connect & Sync in the bottom-left navigation bar (or open the Profile tab and find Connected Apps, also reachable from the plug icon in the top bar).
  2. Tap Connect Garmin Connect.
  3. Read the short note on how Pelaris uses your Garmin data. Underneath is an unticked box, Also send my planned workouts to Garmin Connect. Tick it if you want workouts on your watch, or leave it and turn it on later.
  4. Sign in to Garmin Connect with your Garmin account and allow Pelaris access.

This works on the web at coach.pelaris.io and in the iOS and Android apps.

What syncs

Activities recorded on your Garmin device arrive on their own once your watch syncs with Garmin Connect. Pelaris imports sport, start time, duration, distance, heart rate, pace, elevation, calories, laps and the name of your device. It never imports GPS or route data, sleep or health data.

Older history

Garmin sends activities from the moment you connect, so the first Garmin activity in Pelaris is the next one you record. To bring older sessions across, export them from Garmin Connect as FIT files and import them. The full step-by-step for a bulk Garmin export or single-activity export is in our guide to importing FIT files into Pelaris.

Workouts on your watch

This part is optional. Turn it on with the unticked box when you connect, any time with the Send planned workouts to my watch switch on the Garmin card in Profile > Connected Apps, or directly from a planned session by tapping Send to watch on the session card in Today or Train (also available under Start Session and in the three-dot menu on a session’s Overview tab).

  • Pelaris sends the next two weeks of your planned run, ride, pool swim, strength, cardio, yoga and pilates sessions to your Garmin Connect calendar as structured workouts.
  • When your plan changes, the workouts on Garmin Connect change with it.
  • Sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app to load them.
  • Each session in Pelaris shows where it stands: On Garmin Connect. Sync your watch to load it, or a short reason when a session can’t be sent, such as a session type Garmin has no workout for.

Workouts you send are shared with Garmin and covered by Garmin’s privacy policy. Turn the switch off and Pelaris asks Garmin to remove the upcoming workouts it sent.

Where it shows

A synced Garmin activity completes the matching planned session for that day in Train, and Today shows it done. The session shows Garmin and your device, for example Garmin Forerunner 965, right under its title. The Garmin card in Connected Apps shows your last activity and the device it came from.

Disconnect

Open Connected Apps and disconnect Garmin Connect from its card. You can choose to also delete the imported data, or keep your training history as it stands. Pelaris asks Garmin to remove the upcoming workouts it sent to your calendar, and new activities stop flowing.

If you remove Pelaris from inside Garmin Connect instead, the Garmin card says so and offers Reconnect. Your imported history stays in Pelaris.

Frequently asked questions

What does Pelaris import from Garmin Connect?

Sport, start time, duration, distance, heart rate, pace, elevation, calories, laps and the name of the device that recorded it, for activities recorded after you connect. No GPS or route data, and no sleep or health data.

Can I bring activities from before I connected?

Yes. Export them from Garmin Connect as FIT files and import them. The steps are in Import FIT files from your watch, in the Pelaris help centre.

My workout isn't on my watch. What should I do?

Check the Send planned workouts to my watch switch is on in the Garmin card, or tap Send to watch on the planned session card, then sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app. Only the next two weeks of planned sessions are sent, and the session in Pelaris shows whether it is on Garmin Connect or why it was not sent.

I use Strava too. Will I get duplicates?

No. When the same session arrives from Garmin Connect and from Strava, the two merge into one activity in Pelaris, with both Garmin and Strava listed as its sources.

Does it cost anything?

No. Garmin Connect works on every plan, including the free Beach plan.
